is the birdlife which distinguishes Liwonde as a nature experience.
With a resident and migratory population of well over 300 species,
many rare among them, Liwonde is a paradise for those passionate about
life on the wing. Here is the dream of Africa that has lured explorers
along this very river into the heart of Africa.
The Shire River
does not
dry up like so many other African rivers. Thousands of hippos and
crocodiles live in these abundant waters. Liwonde Nat. Park also
boasts of the largest concentration of hippo in Africa. Antelope,
waterbuck, impala and bushbuck grazing on the floodplain as are
waterbuck, sable and impala whilest herds of elephant drink and barth
in the river. The highlight of a visit to Liwonde is a river cruise.
An astonishing number of bird species inhabit the park, among which

dusty road; this road was under construction in all the worst parts and

Nampula. The compensation on this dusty road are all the various
cultural villages and old little Portuguese towns some of them in ruins,
most of them still in use. In Nampula, clients will overnight in the
Hotel Tropical on bed and breakfast.
This is a beautiful town, with a good number of notable
restaurants and bars and the fampus Makonde wood Carvers.
Nampula: This modern town tucked in the rolling hills
and rising mountains of the interior was established as a centre in
1967 when the Portuguese government transferred the army headquarters
from Mozambique Island to here. It has banks, hotels, tennis clubs,
supermarkets and large glass-fronted stores selling expensive motor
vehicles. The skyline of the town is dominated by the twin cupola
called Cathedral de Nosa Senhora da Conceicao which the locals
irreverently named ‘Gina Lollobrigida’.
Day 6: After breakfast,

and breakfast.
Ilha de Mozambique has a long history, which dates far
back into the 13th century when the Arabic Traders settled
here. Because of its location, it attracted a lot of merchants and it
became the most important trading and shipping post to merchants and
traders from Europe, Arabia, India, China and Indonesia. The
influences from all these civilisations can still be seen in the
customs, social practices, religion, language, dress, dance, cuisine
and architecture of this amazing Island. There are some fascinating
old buildings to explore including the Chapel of Our Lady Constructed
in 1522, it is said to be the oldest remaining European building in
the southern hemisphere. Ilha de Mozambique is classified as a World
Heritage Site.
Day 7: After breakfast,
clients will be transferred to Pemba Beach Hotel in Pemba town, where
they will overnight on bed and breakfast.
The coastal town of Pemba lays claim to some of the
finest coral reefs in all of southern Africa. Brilliantly coloured
coral is but a short swim from the white sands of Wimbe Beach. Divers
and snorkellers swim among a myriad of exotic fish in crystal clear
water. Naturally, the profusion of seafood makes time spent here a
gourmet’s delight.
Pemba town is situated on the tip of a peninsula on the
southern side of the Bay of Pemba, a semi-enclosed natural harbour
which, depending on whom you believe, is the second or third largest
in the world. There is hardly a bay to compare with Pemba on the
entire Mocambique coast. The beaches are wide, sandy and clean, and
lined with palm trees. A coral reef protects the beach and guarantees
safe swimming as well as good snorkelling. Needless to say, Pemba has
enormous potential as a tourist resort.
Pemba’s modern town centre is a rather bland place, but
it’s worth walking down to the old town centre near the port, where a
small grid of roads lined with run-down colonial buildings is fringed
by very attractive and remarkably neat reed-hut village called
Paquitequete. Built on sandy ground that sometimes flood at high tide,
this was Pemba’s first settlement and its inhabitant are largely
Muslim.
Indulge yourself…..with a glorious holiday at a superb
hotel on the golden, sun-kissed beach of Wimbe. Nestling amongst
swaying palm trees and the warm Indian Ocean, Pemba Beach Hotel offers
you the ultimate getaway. Situated outside of Pemba, the capital of
the Cabo Delgado province, the hotel offers exclusivity and
tranquillity in an idyllically beautiful and tropical setting on the
unspoilt Mozambican coastline. Breathtaking coral reefs lie just off
the coastline and their magnificent display of colourful coral
species, thousands of tropical fish and mammals like whales and
dolphins are waiting to be explored…

Bela Vista Lodge on Bed and Break fast.

the north-east coast, surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the
Indian Ocean. Blazing sunrises blanket the sky as traditional fishing
dhows sail out in search of their daily catch. Ambling through the
ancient and narrow streets allows visitors to meet the friendly people
of Mozambique. In historic times, Ibo Island, it was an important
Portuguese trading post. Historic buildings, three forts, and a
beautiful old Catholic Church still remain. Ibo provides a chance to
interact with the amazing rural people and exchange cultural
differences. Traditional silversmiths still operate from the main
fort, and you can wander about this beautiful island and explore.

the presence of some 150 students who study at the agricultural
college based there, and as a result there are more bars than you

town is that it has its own electricity supply, delivered from a
hydro-electric scheme established in 1988 with Norwegian aid.
